What is marysia ulam krauss harcourt-smith?

Marysia Ulam Krauss Harcourt-Smith was a Polish-British socialite who gained notoriety in the 1970s as a result of her involvement with Timothy Leary, a prominent countercultural figure and advocate of LSD. She was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1946, but spent much of her early life traveling across Europe and studying art in Paris.

In 1972, Harcourt-Smith met Leary while visiting him in prison, where he was serving time for drug-related charges. The two began a romantic relationship, and Harcourt-Smith was instrumental in orchestrating Leary's escape from prison with the help of the Weather Underground, a radical leftist group.

After Leary's escape, the pair embarked on a globe-trotting adventure, visiting exotic locations and experimenting with drugs. However, their relationship was short-lived, and Harcourt-Smith later testified against Leary in court in exchange for immunity from prosecution.

Harcourt-Smith continued to live a colorful and enigmatic life after the Leary episode, rubbing shoulders with luminaries like Mick Jagger, Andy Warhol, and Salvador Dali. She passed away in 2020 at the age of 74.
